Spanish Immersion Language Programme Offered Here!

Students will study Spanish 15 hours weekly with tours and activities being conducted in Spanish for a total language learning immersion experience. Special tours to San Juan Capistrano and MOLAA – the Museum of Latin American Art – the only Museum in the US dedicated fully to modern and contemporary Latin American and Latino art.

Cultural exchanges with community groups and immersion language exchanges throughout LA will round out the vibrant city that the Latinx community has created.

Famous for its numerous acclaimed alumni who accomplished 14 Nobel Prizes, 13 faculty MacArthur Fellows, 118 NCAA titles and 261 Olympic medals from students and alumni, UCLA is one of the most distinguished colleges in California. UCLA has 16 dedicated recreational and athletic facilities, including a fitness centre, numerous swimming pools and much more! Throughout the last 100 years, University of California Los Angeles has established its reputation as a “Public Ivy”, making it equivalent to an education from an Ivy League university. The location is in the centre of the city making it perfect to enjoy the best of living in Los Angeles.

Living

  • Standard triple and double dorm rooms with a shared common space
  • Dorm rooms have a shared bathroom ratio of 1:8
  • Each room is furnished with a chest of drawers, closet space and two desks
  • Laundry available in each residence building. High-speed internet throughout (WhatsApp usage limited). Communal lounges on each floor of the residence building
  • Deposit of $100 required upon arrival, replacement of lost room key $100
  • Students are responsible for keeping their rooms clean and tidy. Bathrooms are cleaned daily.
  • Meals served in on-site cafeteria, packed lunches on excursions.
  • Study rooms located on every floor
  • Convenience shop, basketball court, tennis court, and swimming pool located nearby.

Learning

Programme

Arrival

Students will be welcomed upon arrival at Rieber Hall, where they will register, get their room keys, and check in to their rooms.

Welcome

On the first evening there will be a welcome activity which is designed to ensure students have the opportunity to meet staff and other students and get to know more about the campus, its facilities and useful information which will help them during their stay.

Activities

Activities are organised on evenings and afternoons with full-day excursions on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. On Sundays students can choose between an optional — not prepaid — excursion or on-site activities. These may include:

  • Sports ssuch as tennis, basketball, and American football
  • Drama and performance activities such as scavenger hunts and talent shows
  • Evening activities such as karaoke, escape room, arts and crafts, and casino night

Excursions and Trips

Downtown LA: Students get to explore the most interesting sites such as LA Cathedral, Olvera Street, and the Getty Centre.
Hollywood:Students get to stargaze on the famous Hollywood Boulevard with stops at the Walk of Fame, Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive.
Beach Day:No visit to California is complete without a trip to the beach! Beach days include trips to the Getty Villa, Malibu Pier, and Santa Monica.
California Science Centre and Disney Concert Hall:Students get to learn the wonders of science through interactive exhibitions and visit the magnificent concert hall of Walt Disney, with a stop in the historic district of Little Tokyo.
Griffith Observatory and Hollywood Sign Optional Hike: All students will take a trip to Griffith Observatory for astonishing views of LA and the Hollywood Sign. For those who are looking for adventure, there will be an optional 3 hour round-trip trek to get closer to the Hollywood Sign for the best photo opportunity in LA!

Disneyland: The first and still one of the most visited theme parks in the world

Universal Studios: Full of action-packed adventure of rides, shows and real movie studio

Six Flags Magic Mountain: This 260-acre theme park features world-class roller coasters and over 100 rides

Extra

Each 14-night stay includes 3 full-day excursions to exciting places around Los Angeles such as Hollywood, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and Downtown LA, visiting places of interest in each location. Transport for trips may be by private coach or public transport. Students may have lessons either in the morning or in the afternoon in week 1, alternating weekly after that.
